Zombies, Healthcare and Other Crazy News This Week
Good Saturday Morning!
Well, the coroner’s report is in this week on the man, individual, errr…zombie who ate the face off of another man in Florida at the end of last month. The only drug in his system was …….marijuana. If you will recall my post from May 27; Zombie Attack in Florida, much speculation was made concerning the probability that the person was on “bath salts”, a drug which causes the body temperature to spike and psychotic behaviors. Now that we know it was not bath salts we are left with several pressing questions;
- Will marijuana cause this behavior?
- Is this individual really a zombie after all?
- Where is this zombie now?
- How many more zombies has he created?
- Why is his victim still in the hospital after all this time?
- Is his victim being treated for injuries or being quarantined to try to stop the spread of the zombie virus?
And probably the most pressing question today;
- How is the government able to hide this vast conspiracy against the American people?
I am sure there are logical explanations for all of the above questions; But in the crazy-world-turned-upside-down that we live in this week, why look for logical answers? It is Saturday, I need a short break in all the news before I head out the door to work and I thought I would add my thoughts to some of these stories. Read the rest of this entry
Heroes Should Be Remembered
Good Morning Joes and Janes;
I don’t have a devotional per se today but just some random thoughts on Memorial Day. I have heard and read several “Happy Memorial Day” greetings. That somehow doesn’t work that well for me. Memorial Day is remembering those who died fighting to keep this country free and I for one feel more reflective, sad, grateful, humble, or a half-dozen other words and feelings but ‘happy’ is not very far up the list.
A bit of history;
A Brief History of Memorial Day: On May 5, 1868, Major General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic (an organization made up of Union Veterans) set aside May 30th as Decoration Day to commemorate fallen soldiers by adorning their graves with flowers. General Logan’s order declared: “We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance….Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.”
By the end of the 19th century, the observance of May 30th as a day to honor the Civil War dead had become a widespread practice across the nation, but after World War I, the tribute was expanded to include all American military men and women who had died in any war. Memorial Day has been acknowledged as a national holiday since 1971, when an Act of Congress established its observance on the last Monday in May.
In 2000, Congress passed the “The National Moment of Remembrance Act,” asking all Americans to pause at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence in remembrance of all those who have died in military service to America.

With no personal experience but much reading, I don’t believe that people die for their country. They often go to war for their country, to protect freedom and family and livelihood, but they usually die to save a buddy, a member of their unit or in protecting the military unit. But that does not make them any less a hero! They willing went into such a situation that they knew could cost them their lives.
The Blaze ran a story that I think is typical of the direction much of the Liberals and leftists in this country would like to take us: MSNBC Panel on Chris Hayes‘ Show Debate Using the Word ’Hero’ To Describe Fallen Soldiers Memorial Day Weekend Video TheBlaze.com Read the rest of this entry
National Day of Prayer
Good Morning Joes and Janes;
It is partly cloudy in the Bitterroot Valley today, but the sun came up shining brightly on the snow-covered slopes of Saint Mary’s Peak. I hope you will take advantage of the National Day of Prayer activities in your area. TBN has coverage of the Ceremonies in Washington DC if there is nothing happening in your area. God is the hope of any nation and ours is no exception. The verses for today are from Isaiah 5 and pick up on yesterday’s theme of the vineyard. Yesterday talked about our relationship as branches to Christ – The Vine. Today’s verse compares the vineyard to the nation of Israel.
The Song of the Vineyard
1 I will sing for the one I love
a song about his vineyard:
My loved one had a vineyard
on a fertile hillside.
2 He dug it up and cleared it of stones
and planted it with the choicest vines.
He built a watchtower in it
and cut out a winepress as well.
Then he looked for a crop of good grapes,
but it yielded only bad fruit.
3 “Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and men of Judah,
judge between me and my vineyard.
4 What more could have been done for my vineyard
than I have done for it?
When I looked for good grapes,
why did it yield only bad?
5 Now I will tell you
what I am going to do to my vineyard:
I will take away its hedge,
and it will be destroyed;
I will break down its wall,
and it will be trampled.
6 I will make it a wasteland,
neither pruned nor cultivated,
and briers and thorns will grow there.
I will command the clouds
not to rain on it.”
7 The vineyard of the LORD Almighty
is the house of Israel,
and the men of Judah
are the garden of his delight.
And he looked for justice, but saw bloodshed;
for righteousness, but heard cries of distress.
We know that these verses were fulfilled after the crucifixion of Christ. The land of Israel became a desert and wasteland and remained that way until the middle of the 20th Century.
Mark Twain wrote the following about the area in his visit in 1867:
“Palestine sits in sackcloth and ashes. Over it broods the spell of a curse that has withered its fields and fettered its energies… Palestine is desolate and unlovely… It is a hopeless, dreary, heartbroken land… [a] desolate country whose soil is rich enough, but is given over wholly to weeds – a silent mournful expanse… A desolation is here that not even imagination can grace with the pomp of life and action… We never saw a human being on the whole route… There was hardly a tree or a shrub anywhere. Even the olive and the cactus, those fast friends of the worthless soil, had almost deserted the country…” – Mark Twain (describing Palestine on a visit in 1867).
But, we also know that God restores the nation of Israel in the last days. And in 1948 Israel was restored and is blooming again!
God is the one who raises up and takes down nations. Take a moment today to ask for
- A revival in our nation.
- A return to God as a nation
- A seeking of God by our leaders
- A personal revival of ourselves
- A personal commitment to hold leaders accountable.
Have a great day in the Lord!
