The coming Apocalypse

Is the world spinning out of control?  What can be done?  Who will fix it?  What will happen to our freedoms if someone is strong enough to fix it?  In the midst of all this I read Psalms 46 this morning.

Psalm 46:1-11

1. God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  2. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3. though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. “Selah” 4.There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.  5. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.  6. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.  7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. “Selah” 8. Come and see the works of the LORD, the desolations he has brought on the earth.  9. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire.  10. “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  11. The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. “Selah”

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your savior then this Psalm can give you peace in a troubled world.  I don’t know what to expect when I get up in the morning.  Not too much would surprise me anymore, (but be wary what you read on April 1st!)  God is always present, always in control, nothing happen that is out of his control.  If we truly understand this in our hearts as well as our minds, then we can have a peace in times of great trouble.

Even when mountains are shaking and falling into the sea, even when the sea is roaring, high waves crashing and nations are at war, we do not have to fear.  If we have our faith in worldly, man made things, as they are shaken, we too will be shaken.  We are entering a time in human history when all things will be shaken and sifted out.  But if we have our faith in the Lord God who created all of these things, controls all of these things then he will be our Rock, our refuge and our strength.

Verse 8 says: “Come and see the works of the LORD, the desolations he has brought on the earth.”  In the last days of this age God will bring judgment on the earth.  “But isn’t God a loving God?”  Yes, absolutely, but he is also a God of justice.  As we approach the end of this age the earth will be as it is a woman in labor.  In increasing waves that get stronger and stronger, the world will appear to be coming apart.  Everyone on the planet will have an opportunity to make a choice of where their allegiance lies.

But this will pass.  In verse 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire.   God will be exalted in all of the earth!  Jesus Christ will reign as divine ruler on the Earth and all of the nations will exalt him.  They will come and bow at his feet.

But in the meantime things will get very bad!  It will look like the train is coming off of the tracks, and it will.  Remember when you see all of these things happening: The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. “Selah”

Through all of these events we see God is revealing himself to the world and giving those who have not accepted him as Savior, Redeemer an opportunity to do so.  This can be an exciting time to see God’s hand at work.  Probably at no time in history since the time of Christ have people had the opportunity to see fulfillment of Bible prophecies like today.  That is exciting!
