Putting All Your Eggs in One Basket
Good Morning From The Bitterroot Valley;
Often I run into people in the preparedness community that are putting all of their eggs in one basket, so to speak. Where does that term come from anyway? I couldn’t find a direct origin of the term; but obviously it comes from a time when you went to the hen-house instead of the store to get your eggs. If you carried all the eggs for the day in one basket and fell, or stored all your eggs in the house in one basket and it got knocked over; they would all be lost and you would be eggless for the day.
From many of the web sites related to preparedness, survival, December 23, 2012, or ‘Doomsday’, I think a lot of people are “putting all their eggs in one basket”. A sure-fire way to feel defeated, depressed and suspicious of all that you see and hear in the world, is to put all of your faith and beliefs in one person, event or set of circumstances. People have a desire to put faith and trust in something or someone to solve their problems. Over and over through history we see this repeated. Over and over people are led astray and disappointed. Thousands upon thousands, millions and millions have followed the Napoleons, Hitlers, Stalins, and a myriad of small cult leaders to their destruction.
This will all culminate at a point in the future when men will give all authority to one man, (the Anti-Christ), who they believe will solve all of the worlds problems. This is foretold several places in the Bible, most prominently in the book of Revelation. Unfortunately this man will also fail in his bid to run the world. Even though he will have great charisma and people will swear all their allegiance to him, he will be a follower of Satan. In fact it is Satan who gives him his power and allows him to deceive many.
There is only one place that you can put “all of your eggs in one basket” and not expect to get them broken:
FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST
Corinthians 1:15-23
15 He (Jesus Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. 21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation– 23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
The first step to preparedness should be to put all of your spiritual faith eggs in one basket and accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior.
The second step to preparedness should be to put your earthly preparations into several baskets. If you are into preparedness, realise that through history many different people have prepared for events that may or may not have happen. There is nothing wrong with preparing, in fact it would be foolish to ignore dangers in the world around you. At the same time, unless you have a special revelation from God as Noah or Joseph while he was in Egypt, realise that a broad view of both history and potential world events will make you and your family more prepared for potential events than a narrow focus. If you are focused on a day in the future you may not be preparedfor the emergency in your home or car that happens tomorrow or next week.
Above all seek God’s guidance in your preparation plans. Don’t get so involved in preparedness that you forget our main purpose here on earth: spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to the world.
God Bless

You might have noticed in Today in History on the right hand column:
1633 – Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei arrived in Rome for trial before Inquisition for professing belief that earth revolves around the Sun. What a moron! There are a few things we can take away from this important event in history. There were a number of events leading to Galileo’s trip to Rome. In 1613, just as Galileo published his Letters on the Solar Spots, an openly Copernican writing, the first attack came from a Dominican friar and professor of ecclesiastical history in Florence, Father Lorini. Preaching on All Soul’s Day, Lorini said that Copernican doctrine, (which Galileo’s telescope viewing supported), violated Scripture, which clearly places Earth, and not the Sun at the center of the universe. What, if Copernicus were right, would be the sense of Joshua 10:13 which says “So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven” or Isaiah 40:22 that speaks of “the heavens stretched out as a curtain” above “the circle of the earth”?
To learn more of the trial of Galileo you can follow this link: http://law2.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/galileo/galileoaccount.html
Suffice it to say that Galileo was found guilty and was punished for his audacity. The moral of the story: You may be right but that doesn’t mean that the church, the state or most of your fellow men will recognize or applaud you for your effort.
I think there is an additional lesson to be learned when we are reading the Bible. Galileo, in part of his defense brought up these
thoughts: The scriptures can not always be taken literally. Parts of scripture are allegory and some is poetic or figurative language. When we are interpreting scripture we need to make sure that we are not taking figurative, poetic or allegorical language to say something it is not. Today we all accept that the earth revolves around the Sun and that the verse in Joshua 10, while still a miracle deals with the earth standing still in it’s rotation or some other event rather than the Sun stopping as it rotates around the earth.
And somethings we may not know until we get to heaven. That is where faith comes in. True science will support the Bible if we are correctly interpreting the Bible.
At times I am sure Galileo was asking God; Are you sure this is the direction you want me to go?
