A Haunt of Jackels?

Good Morning Regular Joe or Jane

I have a short devotional this morning before I take off to finish my fence job.   In Jeremiah chapter 9, God speaks to the nation of Israel through the prophet.

Jeremiah 9

11 “I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals; and I will make the cities of Judah desolation, without inhabitant.” 12Who is the wise man that may understand this? And who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD has spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land ruined, laid waste like a desert, so that no one passes through? 13 The LORD said, “Because they have forsaken My law which I set before them, and have not obeyed My voice nor walked according to it, 14 but have walked after the stubbornness of their heart and after the Baals, as their fathers taught them,” 15therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, “behold, I will feed them, this people, with wormwood and give them poisoned water to drink. 16 “I will scatter them among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them until I have annihilated them.”

The Jews are God’s chosen people and yet He condemns them for their actions:

  • They have forsaken my law
  • Not obeying His voice
  • Stubbornly following their heart
  • Following the Baals, (local fertility and nature gods)

God says that He will scatter them among the nations and send the sword to destroy them.  If God will carry out this judgment on His chosen people, how much more will He do so for other nations who turn from Him and worship false gods?  God judges individuals on their actions, but He also judges nations as a whole on their actions.

As America has turned from one of the Godliest nations in the world to one who ignores and even deny   the existence of God, I fear for it and the people who inhabit her.  As a republic, truly we as a people are responsible for the direction our government takes.  Have we as a people chosen to follow ‘the Baals’ rather than the God of the Bible and our fathers?

Is there no chance to turn back to God and avert destruction?  Yes, there is a chance!  In the past people of nations have turned back to God in a revival of their faith!  And God is faithful in His actions.  In 2 Chronicles 7:14 God promises

and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

This was written to the Jews, but has proven true over time and history of other nations who will turn their hearts towards God.

Go forth and be a light to those around you today!

  1. Another fantastic devo, Regular Joe! I love the hope you leave us with – that if we turn from our ways and pray and seek His face, He will heal our land. May we all heed the advice of the Bible and seek Him!
